PLAYING THE LAST ACT

 PLAYING THE LAST ACT

The habit of Government refusal to redeem its promises hardly shocks Nigerians these days. Nor does reversal of its decisions. It has earned the current administration in the country public distrust. Still there seems to be no limit to how far it is prepared to play its act. The government went against the plausible choice of the people and the standard of commission towards the most top sit of the governance during its election in the country. And set aside the decision it makes to the people before the the most top sit of the government election conducted.

About the most painful aspect of it all to some Nigerian politicians that belong to the winning political party, they seem not to realize what even happened let alone to talk about U-turn. Instead they are completely put out of action and be saying their candidate in the past election of number one citizen of the country was the best and brightest. Without realization that it is impossible to exorcise "evil" from our bodies.

Hysterically, it was the government itself who complained when it was supposed to be an impartial umpire. I don't think any individual can overturn the mandate of the people giving to the right person. There should be enough of these tricks, enough of this man playing on our intelligence.

Consequently, we also need to worry that a nation on whom history has given the mantle of leadership in Africa the Black World, and indeed in much of the rest of the world now finds itself in a political impasse which is a disgrace and an embarrassment to its people.

If the unfolding events had not been real life happenings and such happenings were not taking place in our dear country, they would have been sheeringly productive of a great engaging pantomime.

Unfortunately, they are not and we ought to be loud in condemning them not because we wish to swell the ranks of government's critics which by the way now seem to mean the entire nation but because of their grave consequence for the country.

Thus denying the right person his mandate unwittingly creates the unfortunate impression, which stands to be urgently corrected that there is a plot to deny people from certain part of the country the aspiration to the nation's leadership. This can only rest on the assumption that there is one nation and several unequal classes of citizenship.

And the path to unity, to stability and to the much-sought democracy that has eluded us in this country is to stand by the credible results. This may hurt the pride and bruise the egos of the echelon and his supporters.

All this may be reason for even a group of infallible wunder-kinds to review their position. It is a greater reason for them to do so when their obstinacy, self-contrived and unnecessary, may be the cause of the nation's disintegration and setback.
